Birdsong

Meet Seán Ronayne. He’s a man on a mission. He’s set himself the task to record the song of every bird species in Ireland - nearly 200 of them. His charismatic and knowledgeable enthusiasm are hard to resist as he and his partner Alba travel to some of the island’s remotest and most beautiful spots to capture elusive species and soundscapes, We accompany them to the raucous seabird colony of Skellig Michael, a native woodland free from road noise in the Burren, the corncrake stronghold of Tory Island to name a few. At once inspiring and cautionary, Seán’s journey illustrates the beauty and importance of sound, and what listening can tell us about the state of our natural world.
