Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.

At last, a pre-teen movie worth its salt. Based on Judy Blume’s 1970s novel, this comedy beautifully evokes that washing-machine churn of fear and yearning that comes between childhood and adulthood. 11-year old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) moves from NYC to the ‘burbs with her family to make new friends while making sense of her new feelings and bodily changes. Plenty of laughs in this sweet coming of age comedy.
