This high-octane, visceral horror-thriller from director Rodo Sayagues continues the themes introduced in the first DB, as we revisit blind ex-Navy Seal Norman Nordstrom, who has to deal with yet another swathe of intruders into his home, this time baddies hellbent on kidnapping his adopted daughter, Phoenix. Sayagues really knows how to use the tools at his disposal here, as the camera swoops around the set, delivering a masterclass in brutal action fayre, dotted with gruesome set-pieces and grisly demises. Unsettlingly long silences ratchet up the tension, and the payoffs are always top drawer jump scares, in the old-fashioned 80s style. Twists & turns await round each corner, as Norman – yet another blazing performance from Stephen Lang – relentlessly dispatches wannabe kidnappers with flair, relish & aplomb. Blackly comic at times, the action doesn’t let up, and Don’t Breathe 2 will do exactly that to you – occasionally, you’ll forget to take a breath. Incredibly intense Friday Fright Night fuel.
