Foscad

Based on characters from Donal Ryan's novel "The Thing About December", "FOSCAD (Shelter)" is the 2021 feature from acclaimed Irish director & writer Sean Breathnach. It received a rapturous response upon its debut at the Galway Film Fleadh, and was selected as the Irish entry for Best International Feature at the 2022 Academy Awards, cementing Breathnach's position as one of Ireland's most exciting directors.

Set in the rugged mountainscapes of Connemara, FOSCAD tells the tale of one John Conliffe, a simple, reclusive soul, who inherits a highly valuable estate upon the passing of his parents. There follows a treacherous fable of mistrust, romance, and even vengeance, as Conliffe navigates the choppy waters of one who has, from out of nowhere, immeasurable wealth fall upon them.

Featuring a breathtakingly assured central performance from Donall O'Healai as the troubled Conliffe, FOSCAD is yet another assured work for Breathnach to add to his flourishing portfolio; stunningly shot, packed with powerful performances, and shot through with a dark heart & humour.

We are delighted to be hosting yet another atmospheric film in the Irish language with our regular partners at Glór Uachtar Tíre.
