Back in 1984, rookie director Tim Burton pulled together a funny little black & white short film, about a reanimated dog, in loving homage to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, a major inspiration in his blossoming young filmmakers’ mind.
Smash cut to 28 years later, and the now-monumentally successful director chooses to revisit his beloved spooky-pooch short, and lo and behold, drops “FRANKENWEENIE”, a full length, stop motion-animated, black & white science fiction/comedy/horror on unsuspecting audiences worldwide. And it’s a corker. The dog in question (named in a moment of genius “Sparky”), and his owner, young scientist Victor Frankenstein head up a hilarious story of reanimation, blackmail and glorious Burtonesque gothic touchstones.
Jam packed with in-jokes, quips & spectacular spooky setpieces, this is a gleeful “boy & his dog” tale with a twist, and is a delight for all ages, especially at Halloween.
