"Welcome to idyllic Camp Crystal Lake..." Sean S Cunningham's game-changing teen slasher was the first ever indie movie to secure distribution investment from a major Hollywood studio, and it certainly delivered at the 1980 box office too, let alone setting the standard for new, graphic, terrifying horror, and a never-ending trail of inferior sequels. In Jason Voorhees, a new anti-hero was born, and, alongside Freddie K & Michael Myers, an entirely new genre stalked & stabbed at the teens of the US and beyond throughout the 80s & 90s. A little quaint now, but still full of that original shock value - a rare big screen outing.
