Henry Glassie may not be a household name, but his life’s endeavours as a devotee, curator and student of folk art and artistic interpretation are the stuff of a life fascinatingly lived. A study in obsessive thoroughness, this wondrous documentary from director Pat Collins (Song of Granite) shines a light on this charismatic and highly regarded US scholar, and his global travels to discover art in all its disciplines and diverse humanity. As a folklorist of some 60 years, it is incredible that Glassie’s labours have never been given this treatment, but now finally his stories, his projects and passions are brought to the big screen. It is deeply immersive and profound, richly visual with a focus on the international artists he encounters, their dedication, and their own stories about how their art defines them. Spellbinding stuff.

After the screening, Director Pat Collins will be here either virtually or in person to answer questions about the film.
