Brett Morgen’s expansive documentary on the creative, stylistic & musical journey of David Robert Jones aka David Bowie, is as electrifying and fiercely original as the artist himself. Strikingly directed, Morgen’s leftfield approach is a breath of fresh air, in its depiction of a true one-off, pulling in rare footage & soundbites, and weaving together a heady audiovisual cinematic stew, that truly captures the spirit of (particularly early) Bowie. The montage-style mashups carry the story along wonderfully - in terms of music documentary, you won’t have seen anything quite like this before. A compulsory Big Screen film for all music fans.
