Rights of Nature
Film & Discussion - Not rated / 40m / Documentary / 2021
We’re all familiar with human rights, but does nature have rights? The human world views nature as a resource to be extracted and exploited, creating environmental devastation. This documentary by Environmental Justice Network Ireland explores how we can re-think this dynamic away from dominance to sharing and regeneration. Introduced by singer songwriter John Spillane, we meet the frontline activists, lawyers and academics using the legal rights of nature to fight to protect our land, forests and lakes in Ireland and beyond.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with Declan Owens who is a climate justice lawyer specialising in earth-centred law, trade union law and human rights. He is CEO of Ecojustice Ireland, a community interest company, advocating for a Just Transition for workers and communities.
