Background to the post

NCC opened in 2009 when a group of like-minded film-lovers screened their first film, The Shining, in Annesley Hall in Newcastle, County Down. Since then, NCC has moved into St Mary’s Hall in the centre of Newcastle, adapting it to cinema with a full-sized screen and red velvet seating.

The Venue Manager is a brand new role and our first paid position. The post-holder will work closely with the management committee and external training providers to settle into the role. Reporting to the management committee, we anticipate the post-holder to grow into the role, establish their autonomy and develop their own initiatives.

The goal of the post is to increase NCC’s revenue to strength our sustainability and cover the costs of this position within three years. Grant funding from Department of Communities’ Art Work - Covid Recovery Programme for Employment and Skills Initiative for the arts sector has been awarded to NCC for this post until June 2025. After that, NCC will need to generate the income to cover the position.

The post-holder will be one of several new art sectors recruits funded by the grant and will be required to take part in joint activities and will need to demonstrate progress in the role to the funder.

As the only full-time, paid member of NCC, the post-holder will not have any co-workers on a similar schedule to shadow. Through a combination of the post-holder’s flexible working hours, the mentoring schedule delivered by the management committee and the provision of external training, we will support the post-holder’s induction and growth in the post, all within a professional development framework.
