This March to celebrate #internationalwomensday2024 - We are screening only films by female directors.
American Psycho
Directed by Mary Harron
Originally considered “unfilmable” by it’s author Brett Easton Ellis, this iconic, insane pitch-black horror/satire was ultimately bought to stunned audiences by director Mary Harron in 2000.
Casting Christian Bale as the main protagonist Patrick Bateman only happened after Leonardo DiCaprio dropped out, but Bale proved to be note-perfect as the deranged banker/serial killer, in what is still infamously known as one of the most scabrous, defiled & shocking pieces of filmmaking ever - even David Cronenberg turned it down! 80s consumerism, squarely skewered on Bateman’s perfect knife; Harron’s film has lost none of its potency, and still has some of the guiltiest laughs in the movies - Huey Lewis, anyone?
