This March to celebrate #internationalwomensday2024 - We are screening only films by female directors.
Lady Bird
Directed by Greta Gerwig
A brand new thread, we bring you Young Programmers, films chosen by NCC’s YP team, aimed at both younger viewers and the young at heart. Thanks to Cinema for All for supporting this initiative.
Years before reinventing Barbie, Greta Gerwig made her dazzling directorial debut with this evergreen favourite; a beautifully written, performed & directed coming-of-age fable, that absolutely enchanted audience, critics and The Academy alike upon release in 2017.
Introducing the subtle charms of the quietly magnificent Saoirse Ronan as the eponymous Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, Gerwig’s vision is an enthralling piece of character-cinema, chronicling McPherson’s heady relationship with her mother in early 00s Sacramento. Great music, and early Timothée Chalamet too.
A wondrous quiet storm of a film, that Gerwig described as feeling “like a memory”. Unforgettable.
