Director Ben Sharrock brings us this offbeat, almost deadpan Scotland-based comedy drama, about a ragtag group of four Syrian asylum seekers awaiting the results of their refugee claims on a remote Scottish island. Heart-breaking one minute, and soaringly uplifting the next, LIMBO makes the very best of it’s stunningly strong young cast of unknowns, cut through with humour & humility.
There’s no arguing that Sharrock’s film is incredibly timely, as the global refugee crisis deepens with each passing month, but here he has humanised the situation perfectly – the stories of these strangers in a strange land, textbook fish out of water, comes with every emotion going, and the performances are so strong that at times it feels like a documentary. Poignant & wry, Limbo has been picking up awards, BAFTAs & critical praise by the boatload – join us to find out why.
